13th GRANSHAN Type Design Competition
The 13th GRANSHAN Type Design competition was held on June 17 at the University of Reading in the UK. This event, featuring specialist lectures, inspiring discussions, and an awards ceremony for the winners, was attended by designers and typography enthusiasts from around the world, both in person and online.
GRANSHAN is an international event focused on non-Latin scripts, aiming to highlight the importance of script and language diversity across the globe. The theme of this year’s edition was Give voice to type.
Keynote & Presentations
Golnar KatRahmani, delivered a powerful keynote speech. Since 2018, Rahmani, who runs her own design studio, has actively worked to challenge and counteract the political and ideological negative biases associated with the Arabic script. She emphasized the role of workshops, talks, and graphic design in fostering cultural exchange and elevating appreciation for Arabic typography.
Winners of the Arabic Typeface Competition
The Arabic typeface competition at GRANSHAN saw outstanding achievements by Noonfont designer, who earned notable recognition in this category.
Moslem Ebrahimi won second prize with his typeface Hasti. Due to the jury’s high standards, no first prize was awarded in this category.
