Atabay is a display typeface inspired by handwritten forms and created in a brush-and-ink style. Although the connected nature of Persian script and its Eastern visual spirit naturally harmonize with brush-and-ink aesthetics, Persian typefaces in this style remain rare and limited in number. What distinguishes Atabay from other handwritten typefaces is its strong sense of spontaneity, movement, and expressive energy.

Designed by Hadi Arjmand, Atabay was originally created as a personal typeface intended to give his graphic works a distinctive and unique visual identity.

Each letter in this typeface was initially drawn individually and later connected through digital implementation. The designer does not strictly adhere to the conventional connection system commonly found in Persian fonts. This deliberate approach aligns with the typeface’s improvised, organic, and non-mechanical character.
