Nouzdah

Throughout the design and development of Nouzdah, readability in long-form text and at small sizes remained a central consideration. Its intricate details are an essential part of its character, but they are never intended to overshadow the fundamental purpose of a text typeface. The extensive range of combinations and stylistic possibilities has been developed with the same principle in mind: that visual richness should remain in service of the text.

Nouzdah is designed to move comfortably between different scales and contexts. It can bring presence and distinction to headlines and short texts, while remaining capable of handling the demands of long-form editorial and book typography. In digital environments, it offers a classic yet confident choice for websites and applications.

Its rich collection of stylistic alternates and contextual forms also opens another avenue of expression, allowing designers to draw upon them in creating logotypes with a distinctive and individual visual charact.

In scripts such as Muhaqqaq, the long tails of Reh and Waw are distinctive structural features, and their parallel alignment plays an important role in maintaining the rhythm and flow of writing.

In Nouzdah, this characteristic is preserved through five different forms and sizes for the tails of Reh and Waw, carefully designed to maintain their parallel relationship while controlling the vertical extension of the letters, preserving the visual balance, rhythm, and readability of the text.

One of the distinctive forms of "Heh" in Nastaliq is the "Heart-shaped Heh", a unique and elegant form that has rarely been adapted to modern non-Nastaliq typefaces. As far as we have seen in known examples, Nouzdah is among the first typefaces to reinterpret this form within a non-Nastaliq structure and adapt it to its own visual language; an approach also applied to the "Comma-shaped Heh".

Achieving this formal harmony was one of the challenges in the design of Nouzdah.

The significance of "Heart-shaped Heh" and "Comma-shaped Heh" becomes even more apparent in Urdu writing, where the distinction between these two forms ("Heh Goal" and "Heh Doachashmee") plays a specific role in the writing system.
