Doran
The creation of Doran began with Fereshte’s idea: to design a distinctive typeface for the fashion industry.
Our process started with an exploration of scripts, and we chose Thuluth as our foundation — bold and captivating, much like fashion itself.
Gradually, and perhaps unconsciously, the subtle influence of Nastaliq and its cultural depth began to surface within the forms.
Doran is a serious, yet kind, typeface. It’s filled with curves — finding a straight line in it takes effort. Its joints are soft and seamless, while its edges are sharply cut. Paired with its strong contrast in stroke weight, these traits give Doran an elegant, seductive character that shines in headlines.
Doran carries a classic taste with a contemporary spirit:
- If it were a person, it would be in its fifties — mature, past the naivety of youth.
- If it were a car, it would be a Mercedes-Benz.
- If it were music, it would resonate with Persian instruments.
This makes Doran a perfect companion for classic, high-contrast Latin typefaces, meeting the needs of designers who seek harmony between scripts.
The Persian and Arabic glyphs of Doran were designed by Farshteh Iranshahi and Reza Bakhtiarifard between 2019 and 2024. The Armenian glyphs were crafted by Ehsan (Daniel) Roudi in 2025, while the Latin set is powered by the open-source Fraunces typeface.

Hi, I’m Ehsan, a graphic designer and typographer. My passion lies in blending different lettering and calligraphic cultures. In collaboration with Nahaaki Studio, I’ve had the honor of designing and redesigning logotypes for well-known brands such as Delester and Abali. For the typeface Doran, together with Reza Bakhtiari-Fard and Fereshteh Iranshahi, I designed the Armenian version of the font.
